I recently read a book that among other things, talks about fate and how the more people you interact with, the more likely it is that good things will happen to you. I’ve seen this occur many times in real life and this particularly applies to networking. Sometimes luck finds you when you are prepared to get out there and meet people.
Relevance to business
The relevance of this to the professional environment forms the foundations of networking; the more people you meet, engage with and talk to; the more likely it is that opportunities will come your way. For example, I met a contact at one of the big four accounting firms who mentioned in passing that they were trying to get a meeting with a finance director I knew well so I offered to make the introduction. It turned out that the client was looking at a number of potential acquisition targets and needed professional accounting advice.
