The market for Newly Qualifieds in Scotland has shifted significantly this year with fewer firms planning to look externally. For those considering a potential move to Scotland, you can expect an excellent standard of living. Hours worked can be varied and depend on whether the role is transactional or advisory. Nevertheless the number of hours worked certainly meets many lawyers’ requirement for a work life balance, although ambitious lawyers will obviously put in the hours wherever they work
The quality of work in the top Scottish and National firms is every bit as good as their counterparts south of the border and in the last few years high value Corporate, Banking and Property deals have been common transactions for lawyers in Scotland
To be involved in, even running, including Pan-European and international deals, requiring the legal teams to deal with complex areas of law and an international client base.
Whilst there are unlikely to be many vacancies in the Property, Corporate and Banking sectors; an increase in demand for contentious services is likely to lead to more roles in the Employment, Commercial Litigation and other contentious areas.
