Real Estate solicitors - is now really the right time to move firms?

Real Estate teams remain incredibly busy and most teams continue to be on the lookout for quality solicitors to recruit.

As a result, if you have solid commercial property experience you will be able to move firms. However, in the first instance you need to ascertain (a) whether you are moving for the right reasons and (b) which type of firm you want to move to.

There are a huge number of law firms looking to recruit in Real Estate. We will be able to present you with many different options but before pressing the button and beginning the process of interviewing with firms, you need to be certain that you are ready to make the move. Teams are so busy that they will move extremely quickly to recruit a good solicitor – this year we have moved top tier property lawyers within 24 hours!

Strong property solicitors are precious commodities for their current firms – and these solicitors have come to realise this! Many teams are stretched for resource and they simply cannot afford to let their best people go. As a result, we have seen an increase in situations where solicitors secure a role at another law firm only to be persuaded to stay at the current firm by being offered numerous incentives (normally financial). This creates a bad impression of you in the market (partners do speak to partners at other firms) and you end up burning bridges with law firms, inevitably making it difficult to move in the future.

Therefore, you need to be 100% sure that you want to make that move. If you are solely motivated by seeking a better salary then that’s probably not a good enough reason. Have a think about your priorities – i.e. progression paths, quality of work, work/life balance, team dynamics.

Our team know the market and have the ears of the Real Estate Partners at both national and regional firms. Therefore, we can assist you by providing a genuine consultancy service to talk through your options. We will get to know you and what motivates you. It might be that we decide you are best placed at your current firm and now is not the time to move, which is absolutely fine.

Our message to you is that Real Estate teams are busy across the board. So whether you are a top tier lawyer looking for a change in culture or a regional lawyer looking to make the move to a bigger firm, you will have plenty of options.

Please get in touch if you are considering a move. There is a lot to talk about! Browse our current legal jobs or contact us to discuss your needs in more detail.
