Great sales professionals are in high demand, can be difficult to find, and feel impossible to replace. As competition for the best talent in the market is fierce, it is essential to make sure you are truly valuing the high performing staff in your teams and invest in the training and development of those who are still growing their skills.

Do you offer your employees a workplace culture that is supportive and welcoming to all? Do the individuals in your team feel able to bring their whole selves to work and like they are appreciated for their varying views and skills?
While different people look for different things when exploring their options in the market it is not uncommon for sales professionals, in particular, to simply want a company that rewards their successes when they hit sales figures or make it to the top of league tables. These individuals are driven by recognition and so enjoy working for an employer that values their employees and truly appreciates hard work. Others are motivated by the ability to earn an uncapped commission/bonus and reap the financial rewards of their hard work.

Show your appreciation

Recent research has estimated that approximately 59% of UK workers are considering moving jobs in the next year. Of those, 34% said that their main motivation was a lack of recognition, highlighting just how important it is to ensure you are really demonstrating to your employees that you value them.
One of the most common reasons sales professionals choose to explore their options in the market is due to their current employees significantly increasing their targets which in turn renders earning potential or progression unachievable. In fact, according to UK workers, nearly half of all jobs fail to provide adequate career development.
While it is important to regularly assess the salary and benefits packages you are offering your employees to ensure you are competitive, it is also important to consider the culture of the workplace and the career progression opportunities you offer your people. Different people are motivated by different things and if your employees aren’t engaged at work then a quick fix pay rise won’t solve the longer-term issues.
