Accounting jobs in Technology and Telecoms

The Technology and Telecoms sector spans a wide range of businesses, from multinational household names to small venture capitalist backed organisations in the early phases of start up. Each faces their own challenge: increased competition, rising costs, a lack of available credit and a general fall in business confidence to name a few. This has shifted strategy from aggressive M&A activity to consolidation, looking inward at customer retention and maximising revenues from existing clients.

Despite the gloomy outlook, the demand for finance professionals remains high. The decline of certain businesses presents opportunities for others. Organisations not only need to understand their revenue streams but analyse their costs, looking at the effects of any reduction to their cost base. For many this is the first significant economic downturn they have experienced.

Whilst some finance redundancies have started to feed through to this sector, the supply of high calibre candidates does not exceed demand. Candidates are increasingly wary of the risks in moving jobs and are reluctant to do so. This means that perceived higher risk businesses are having to pay a premium to attract the top talent but for other organisations job security and progression are overtaking a pay rise as the main motivator.
