Our client is a privately owned construction and refurbishment contractor with a long trading history and a strong reputation across London and the South East. The business operates a traditional contractor model, delivering complex projects for a loyal client base and values experience, judgement and hands‑on leadership.

Job Description

As the Financial Controller / Head of Finance, you will assume full responsibility for the finance function and act as the principal financial advisor to the directors. Key responsibilities include:

  • Production of monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet and forecasts
  • Work‑in‑progress, contract accruals and margin analysis
  • Weekly contract and valuation performance tracking
  • Daily cash management and rolling cashflow forecasting
  • Monthly VAT returns, PAYE submissions and CIS compliance
  • End‑to‑end payroll processing and pension administration
  • Overhead analysis and cost control
  • Oversight of sales, nominal, subcontractor and purchase ledgers
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset register
  • Year‑end audit preparation and liaison with external auditors
  • Group reporting and consolidation where required
  • Attendance at monthly management meetings, providing commercial insight



The Successful Applicant

The successful Financial Controller / Head of Finance should meet the following requirements:

  • You will be a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA) with proven experience in a construction or contracting environment.
  • You will have strong working knowledge of WIP, CIS and cashflow management, and be comfortable operating as the number one finance lead within an owner‑managed business.
