The client is a large, well‑established organisation with a workforce of around 1,000 employees, operating in a fast‑paced and highly regulated environment. The Payroll and HR team is experienced, supportive, and focused on accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement while offering flexibility and long‑term stability.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Processing accurate monthly payrolls within agreed deadlines
  • Inputting payroll data including starters, leavers, contractual changes and amendments
  • Managing variable pay including overtime, sickness, maternity/paternity pay and other statutory payments
  • Completing manual payroll calculations where required
  • Preparing and submitting payroll reports to internal and external stakeholders
  • Responding to employee payroll queries via phone, email and face-to-face
  • Managing the day-to-day Payroll inbox
  • Ensuring full compliance with payroll legislation including PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, pensions and GDPR
  • Supporting auto-enrolment pensions administration and deductions
  • Working collaboratively with HR, Finance and the Data Analyst to produce payroll and HR MI reports
  • Supporting the Payroll Manager with process alignment across payroll, benefits, sickness and annual leave
  • Identifying, escalating and resolving payroll issues proactively
  • Assisting with continuous improvement projects across payroll and HR processes



The Successful Applicant

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years' payroll experience (or previous sole payroll responsibility)
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements
  • Experience processing monthly payrolls in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to carry out manual payroll calculations
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Confident communicator with the ability to manage complex payroll queries
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and work proactively under pressure



Desirable:

  • Experience using iTrent payroll
  • Exposure to payroll benefits, including salary sacrifice schemes
