Job Description

· Technical expert advising on payroll and pension matters, ensuring compliance with regulations.

· Manage workflows and ensure all payroll transactions are processed in a timely and accurate manner.

· Line manage the payroll administration team.

· Lead and guide line managers and budget holders across the organisation and employee payroll and benefits onboarding to ensure that employees are paid accurately and within the payroll deadlines and in line with organisational policies.

· Drive digital change as we are in the process of introducing new systems to streamline the payroll process.

· In addition to taking ownership of the payroll function you will ensure our processes are efficient, streamlined, automated and simple but ultimately that they meet the needs of our colleagues ensuring confidence in their pay.

· Work closely with colleagues within the People and Finance teams as well as with our Senior Management Team so the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels is key.

  • Support audits and compliance checks related to payroll activities.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within payroll systems.
  • Ensure adherence to public sector policies and guidelines.

The Successful Applicant

The successful applicant should have:

  • Proven experience in payroll processing within accounting and finance.
  • Expert knowledge of the creation of user guides, processes and systems
  • Strong understanding of payroll systems and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with integrity.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
