We have a culture and commitment to making Defra a great place to work and ensuring our staff have the skills and motivation to deliver great results. We actively support staff in the upskilling in category and contract management, sourcing and their commercial specialisms. We are part of the Government Commercial Organisation, which will provide a route to commercial career progression across the Civil Service.
Our vision is to create a great place for living for people in this country. The environment is fundamental to all that we do, and we must protect and enhance it. Our job is to make our country a great place for living. We do this by supporting our superb food, farming and fisheries industries, enhancing our beautiful rural environment, and better protecting against flooding, disease and other natural threats.
We want to create commercial expertise at the heart of sustainable business delivery. We want to build on our existing expertise and develop a commercial organisation that breaks new levels of performance and influence. We want to deliver maximum value from our £2-4 bn annual expenditure, where we operate in some of the most challenging supply markets that you’ll find. You will be an essential element in building that capability.
