Job Description

This is a hands-on, all-round finance role offering real breadth and visibility across the business. Working closely with a highly experienced Accounts Manager (28+ years with the business), you'll gain full exposure to the finance function with a clear succession pathway into a more senior role within 12-18 months.

  • Manage sales and purchase ledger activities, including invoicing, payments, and reconciliations
  • Oversee credit control and customer account management
  • Process supplier invoices, including import documentation and VAT considerations
  • Prepare and run payment runs (GBP & foreign currency)
  • Perform bank reconciliations and manage cash transactions
  • Support month-end processes, including reporting and stock/sales analysis
  • Assist with VAT returns and HMRC submissions
  • Produce management information to support external accountants
  • Support payroll and pension administration (c.20 employees)
  • Work closely with the wider business to ensure accurate financial data and controls

The Successful Applicant

A successful Assistant Accountant should have:

  • A background in accounting or finance, with relevant qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • A detail-oriented approach to ensure accuracy in financial records.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Knowledge of the industrial and manufacturing sector is advantageous but not essential.
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and grow within the role.
