Job Description

  • Lead and manage audit engagements and accounts across a varied client portfolio, including substantial work with charity and not‑for‑profit organisations.
  • Take ownership of the full audit process - planning, risk assessment, fieldwork and completion - ensuring technical excellence and full compliance throughout.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for clients, trustees and senior stakeholders, offering clear explanations and practical, sector‑aware advice.
  • Prepare and review audit files, statutory accounts and detailed management reports, delivering recommendations tailored to each organisation's needs.
  • Play a key role in developing the firm's charity audit approach, enhancing methodology, internal knowledge resources and responses to regulatory changes.
  • Mentor and supervise trainees and newly qualified team members, reviewing their work and supporting their technical growth.
  • Contribute to business development by building relationships within the charity sector, supporting tender activity and identifying opportunities to add value.
  • Work collaboratively across the group to strengthen processes, client service and resource planning.
  • Maintain accurate billing, time management and documentation across all engagements.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Audit Senior should have:

  • Experience working with a portfolio that includes charities, or a genuine motivation to specialise in charity‑sector audits.
  • Strong technical audit skills and a solid understanding of Charities SORP, or a clear commitment to developing this expertise quickly.
  • Confident communicator who can build effective relationships with trustees, CEOs and non‑financial stakeholders.
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA/ICAEW) with strong post‑qualification audit experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead assignments, manage deadlines and review the work of junior team members.
  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of the pressures and challenges facing both charities and SMEs.
