Education and professional development in Bristol

Bristol plays host to two major Universities. The University of Bristol (UoB), with thriving arts, science and engineering faculties, and the University of the West of England (UWE) with major business, applied science and education faculties. With a combined student enrolment of close to 50,000 the two universities are among the largest employers in the South West of England and have a great influence on the social and cultural evolution of the city. Both UoB and UWE are world renowned for the research work they do in engineering and healthcare respectively.

Transport links in Bristol

Bristol is one of the major hubs in the South West of England, and a major centre of employment, retail, culture and higher education. As such it enjoys excellent transport links to the rest of the UK. The M4 and M5 motorways intersect near the city offering easy access to both Birmingham and the Midlands, and the M4 corridor to London as well as Wales.
As well as its road links, Bristol is well served by rail. Two major railway stations allow easy access to much of the South West and other nearby major cities – 90 minutes to London and 80 minutes to Birmingham. Many of those who work in Bristol commute from surrounding suburbs via local train and bus services.
