Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Financial Operations, the Financial Control Manager will lead a team of six covering financial accounting, ledger control, finance system interfaces, treasury, expenses, accounts payable and customer payments.Key responsibilities include:

* Leading, coaching, and developing the Financial Control and Operations team

* Managing ledger close processes, journals, reconciliations, and reporting timetables

* Acting as subject matter expert for ledger feeds across policy admin, payroll, expenses, investments and other core systems

* Owning the financial control pack, including balance sheet and income statement reconciliation insights, ageing analysis, root cause analysis and exception reporting

* Ensuring robust financial controls, completing control testing and maintaining risk registers

* Driving continuous improvement, automation and technology-enabled enhancements to achieve target‑state processes

* Partnering with Group Reporting, FP&A, Technical Accounting and operational teams

* Managing operational tax submissions including VAT and regulatory reporting

* Contributing to finance change and strategic transformation initiatives

* Supporting cultural change towards high performance, accountability and continuous improvement

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate for this Financial Control Manager position will have:

* A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

* Strong experience across financial accounting, financial control and finance operations

* Proven people leadership capability with the ability to inspire, challenge and develop teams

* Background in financial services, ideally life and pensions

* Experience improving financial control frameworks and working with risk and compliance

* Strong understanding of system interfaces, reconciliations and end‑to‑end transaction flows

* Comfort with change, transformation, and continuous improvement

* Passion for simplifying and automating processes using technology

* Desirable: treasury experience and knowledge of IFRS 17
