Job Description

  • Provide clear health and safety advice to colleagues, helping them apply safe working practices in their day-to-day work.
  • Carry out workplace inspections and risk assessments, identifying practical actions to reduce hazards.
  • Review health and safety arrangements and maintain accurate records to support consistent standards.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, documenting findings and helping to prevent similar events.
  • Develop and update health and safety guidance, ensuring information is clear and easy to use.
  • Work with teams across the Public Sector department to promote awareness of health and safety responsibilities.
  • Monitor agreed actions following inspections and incidents, helping teams close actions within suitable timescales.
  • Provide reports on health and safety activity, risks and actions to inform operational decisions.

The Successful Applicant

A successful 'Health & Safety Officer' should have:

  • Experience of delivering practical health and safety advice in a workplace setting.
  • Confidence in completing risk assessments and workplace inspections.
  • Experience of reviewing incidents and near misses, with clear written records.
  • The ability to explain health and safety guidance in a straightforward way.
  • Good attention to detail when maintaining health and safety documentation.
  • Experience of working with different teams to improve safe working practices.
