Job Description



Key responsibilities include:Category Strategy & Planning

  • Support the development of specifications aligned with business needs
  • Contribute to category strategies and plans
  • Carry out analysis, research, and requirements gathering
  • Track progress against category milestones and objectives



Procurement & Sourcing

  • Deliver or support end‑to‑end strategic sourcing activity
  • Lead low‑value or low‑complexity procurements, with support as needed
  • Work with stakeholders to refine and agree business requirements
  • Provide guidance on procurement processes, frameworks, and compliance
  • Contribute commercial input to business cases
  • Support tender evaluations and award processes
  • Ensure procurement outcomes provide demonstrable value for money



Contract & Supplier Management

  • Manage day‑to‑day delivery of low to medium‑risk contracts
  • Monitor supplier performance, KPIs, risks and issues
  • Support change control, financial monitoring and governance
  • Analyse spend, supplier data and management information
  • Contribute to supply chain and supplier relationship management activity



Stakeholder & Supplier Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
  • Provide a customer‑focused commercial service
  • Develop effective working relationships with suppliers
  • Support governance structures and communication across teams

The Successful Applicant

A successful Assistant Commercial Manager should have:

    • Recent experience running end‑to‑end tender processes, with clear examples
    • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
    • Experience supporting or contributing to commercial strategies
    • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
    • Understanding of procurement rules, frameworks, or compliance requirements
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a commercial or procurement team
