Job Description

The Technology Risk & Controls Manager's responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Lead and evolve first line risk and controls across Operations, spanning Technology, Change, Account Management, and HR.
  • Own controls relating to resilience, change and IT supplier management, including business continuity and related control activities.
  • Use the risk system to analyse Operations' risk profile, ensuring that risks and controls are up to date and actions are evidenced and on track.
  • Design and implement scalable control and oversight frameworks, with a core focus on technology risk and change, which dovetail with the organisation's Risk Management Framework.
  • Coordinate risk assessments across systems, Operations' suppliers and change initiatives; document outcomes and agreed actions.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of up-to-date policies and manuals for the Operations team, with particular support for technology-related documentation.
  • Own the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and coordinate Business Impact Assessments (BIAs), ensuring they remain up to date.
  • Coordinate and oversee remediation of internal risk, audit, and RCSA actions across Operations, ensuring clear accountability and timely delivery.
  • Strengthen supplier oversight in Operations, working within the overall Supplier Framework, including maintaining robust first line controls schedules and control testing/assurance activities.
  • Represent first-line controls in leadership forums and governance committees; provide clear reporting and insight for submission to Executive Committees, the Audit & Risk Committee and the Board.
  • Support the Operations team in relation to document retention, data ownership, and data protection.
  • Champion best practice and continuous improvement, acting as a centre of excellence for risk and controls in Operations.
  • Work closely with the Second Line Risk & Compliance Team to ensure activities dovetail with overall risk management, governance and controls approaches.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Technology Risk & Control Manager should have:

  • Educated to degree level and/or holding a relevant professional qualification.
  • Strong experience in operational risk, controls and governance, with a track record in technology and/or change environments.
  • Practical knowledge of risk and control frameworks (e.g., RCSA, key controls, control testing, issue/action tracking) and the ability to design proportionate control suites.
  • Experience assessing third parties/suppliers in Operations and managing risk actions through to closure, with clear evidence and audit trail.
  • Strong planning and prioritisation skills, able to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Understanding of financial services regulatory expectations for operational resilience, outsourcing and technology risk.
  • Highly organised, with excellent judgement, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Trusted, discreet and professional with a high degree of integrity.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and forward-planning skills.
  • Skilled at simplifying complexity, driving clarity and action.
  • Adaptable, proactive and results-oriented with a focus on delivery excellence.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and learning.
  • Ability to challenge and provide insight in a constructive manner.



Desirable

  • As a significant focus of this role will be technology risk and controls, demonstrable experience in this area is critical. A financial services and IT audit background is highly desirable.
  • Experience in similar roles within financial services or the public sector.
