Job Description

The Successful Senior Accounts Payable Assistant will likely have the following responsibilities:

  • Manage complex supplier categories and onboarding, including verification and approvals
  • Resolve P2D exceptions, manual coding issues, and escalated supplier queries
  • Ensure accurate coding, VAT treatment, cost centre allocation, and supplier data in Xero
  • Complete and review high-value or complex supplier statement reconciliations
  • Support weekly/monthly payment runs with strong controls and audit backing
  • Deliver AP month-end activities, including accruals, aged creditor reviews, narratives, and cut-off checks
  • Liaise with operational teams and suppliers to resolve complex issues
  • Train and support the AP Processor and drive continuous improvement of AP processes
  • Support audits, compliance checks, and requests from senior finance leadership



The Successful Applicant

The successful Senior Accounts Payable Assistant should have:

  • Strong experience in an Accounts Payable role within a high-volume multi-site or service-based environment
  • Experience with invoice capture systems such as P2D or similar
  • Good working knowledge of Xero or another cloud-based accounting platform
  • Strong understanding of VAT rules and nominal coding
  • Experience with statement reconciliation and supplier account analysis
  • Confidence handling complex or high value invoices and technical queries
  • Ability to work to deadlines in a busy finance environment
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to support and coach junior team members
