The Assistant Accountant will join a high-calibre Group Finance team, based in Cheshire, that operates with a "one team" mindset. Despite the size of the business, finance roles are broad, hands-on and offer genuine exposure - ideal for someone who wants to learn properly, not get boxed into a narrow remit. With major investment underway, the business is growing quickly, making this an excellent time to join and develop alongside it. You'll be supported by qualified accountants, surrounded by people studying, and given a proper handover into the role.

Job Description

This role is designed to move you firmly into month-end and group reporting, the Assistant Accountant role includes:

  • Supporting the production of monthly management accounts
  • Posting journals and supporting month-end and year-end close
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assisting with intercompany reconciliations and recharges
  • Supporting VAT returns (training provided if needed)
  • Exposure to statutory reporting, audits and ONS reporting
  • Maintaining financial master data within the ERP system
  • Supporting capital expenditure reporting
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.

The Successful Applicant

The successful Assistant Accountant will be or have:

  • AAT qualified (or very close) with solid practical accounting knowledge
  • Experience working in industry (not purely transactional)
  • Comfortable with reconciliations, postings and understanding how numbers flow
  • Proactive, curious and keen to learn
  • Someone who wants to progress onto ACCA (support provided)
  • Confident engaging with others and working as part of a wider team
  • You don't need to know everything - strong foundations and the right mindset matter far more.
