The HR Business Partner will provide short-term cover in a small, high-pressure HR team. The role focuses on managing a complex Employee Relations caseload and supporting senior stakeholders. Ideal candidates will have strong ER experience in public sector or law enforcement-style environments, with the ability to handle sensitive issues and legal risk.

Job Description

  • Manage a heavy ER caseload including misconduct, grievances, harassment, attendance, and other sensitive issues
  • Support and coach managers through formal processes, including drafting correspondence and facilitating mediation
  • Contribute to ongoing Employment Tribunal (ET) cases and ensure compliance with employment law
  • Act as the main People & Culture contact for business stakeholders, providing guidance and updates to senior leaders
  • Lead monthly stakeholder HR meetings, focusing on data, insights, and ER case discussions
  • Maintain continuity of HR support during staff absences and collaborate with internal HR specialists
  • Operate in a fast-paced, high-scrutiny environment requiring resilience, confidence, and strong relationship-building skills
  • Support organisational culture initiatives while ensuring HR processes and best practice are consistently applied

The Successful Applicant

A successful HR Business Partner should have:

  • Strong HR Business Partnering experience with a proven track record in Employee Relations
  • Extensive hands-on ER casework, including managing complex, sensitive, or contentious HR matters
  • Experience supporting Employment Tribunal processes and ensuring compliance with employment law
  • CIPD Level 7 (or working towards) with Chartered/Fellow membership or equivalent experience
  • SC Security Clearance is advantageous
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to analyse and interpret HR data to inform decisions and drive improvement
  • Experience implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Capability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
