Job Description

  • Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients/employees
  • Manage payroll inputs including starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, overtime, and statutory payments
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, including RTI submissions (FPS/EPS)
  • Calculate and process statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, etc.)
  • Administer pension auto-enrolment, including submissions and employee communications
  • Handle payroll queries from clients and employees in a timely and professional manner
  • Reconcile payroll reports and ensure accuracy before submission
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure data confidentiality at all times
  • Work to tight deadlines in a high-volume environment

The Successful Applicant

A successful candidate should have:

  • Minimum 3 years' payroll experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or bureau
  • Proven experience managing high-volume payroll
  • Strong working knowledge of BrightPay (or similar payroll software)
  • Solid understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
  • Experience with pension auto-enrolment schemes
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience working within a payroll bureau or practice environment
  • Knowledge of additional systems (e.g., Sage Payroll, Xero Payroll)
  • CIPP qualification or working towards
