We are supporting a leading national organisation within the local government sector. The organisation works closely with councils and senior stakeholders across the public sector, providing representation, strategic support and sector-wide leadership.

Job Description

This is an exciting Interim Business Development Officer opportunity to support the development and implementation of new income-generating products, services and commercial opportunities that contribute to the organisation's financial sustainability and deliver additional value to its customers and stakeholders.

The role will focus on identifying new revenue opportunities, supporting the development of commercially viable services, and contributing to the successful delivery of wider commercial initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new commercial and income-generating opportunities.
  • Support the development and delivery of new products and services, taking ideas from concept through to implementation.
  • Conduct market research and analysis, and engage with customers and stakeholders to identify opportunities and inform service development.
  • Lead and coordinate competitive tender, bid and grant-funding processes, ensuring high-quality submissions.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure commercial opportunities are appropriately costed, resourced and viable.
  • Support the development and implementation of the organisation's sponsorship and partnership strategy.
  • Prepare and contribute to commercial business cases, financial models and proposals for new initiatives.
  • Build effective relationships across the organisation and contribute to a collaborative, flexible and commercially focused business development team.
  • Ensure all activity is delivered in line with organisational values, policies and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the role.



The Successful Applicant

A successful Business Development Officer should have:

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing income-generating products, offers, and services from initiation to implementation, ideally within local government or wider public sector.
  • Experience in commercial market research and customer engagement.
  • Experience in supporting commercial budget management, financial modelling and commercial business case development.
  • A broad understanding of local and central government and how they work.
  • Experience of managing a complex workload, preparing business development plans and meeting deadlines and milestones.
  • Experience of successfully delivering multi-stage income-generating projects according to original objectives. Experience of a range of software packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and the internet.
  • Experience of developing and delivering commercial presentations to a range of audiences.
  • Experience of managing income generation partnerships with successful outcomes.
