City of London Interim View Job Description
Due to continued growth and an active project pipeline, they are seeking an experienced Construction Lawyer to join their in-house legal team on either a fixed-term contract or day rate basis. The successful candidate will act as a trusted adviser to project teams, commercial managers and senior leadership across a range of construction and infrastructure matters.

With a substantial portfolio of high-value projects, the business requires experienced legal support to manage contractual risk, support project delivery and advise key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Job Description

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of construction and infrastructure contracts, including:
      • NEC3 and NEC4 contracts
      • JCT contract suites
      • FIDIC agreements
      • Subcontracts
      • Professional appointments
      • Framework agreements
      • Joint venture agreements
      • Bonds, guarantees and collateral warranties
  • Advising project delivery, commercial and procurement teams on contractual obligations and risk allocation
  • Providing legal support throughout the project lifecycle, from tender stage through to completion
  • Advising on contract variations, extensions of time (EOTs), payment mechanisms and compensation events
  • Supporting claims management, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution strategies
  • Advising on adjudications, contractual disputes and management of external legal counsel where required
  • Providing commercially focused legal advice to operational, commercial and leadership teams
  • Supporting governance, compliance and contract management initiatives across the business
  • Identifying and mitigating legal and commercial risks associated with major construction projects
  • Developing precedents, guidance materials and contract playbooks to improve consistency and efficiency
  • Delivering legal training to commercial and project teams on key contractual and risk issues
  • Supporting strategic bids, tenders and project mobilisation activities



The Successful Applicant

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent jurisdiction)
  • 3 - 5 years' PQE, although all relevant experience will be considered
  • Strong construction law experience gained within private practice or an in-house legal team
  • Extensive experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating NEC and JCT contracts
  • Knowledge of FIDIC contracts would be advantageous
  • Experience advising on major infrastructure, engineering, utilities, energy, real estate or construction projects
  • Understanding of claims, adjudications and dispute resolution processes
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and non-legal stakeholders
  • Experience working closely with Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, Commercial Managers and Project Directors would be highly beneficial
  • Pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet tight project deadlines
