Negotiation and supplier management are key skill sets for individuals in the Buying arena.
Merchandisers work alongside a buying team providing analytical support, through forecasting and trend analysis ensuring that the Buyers have the correct data in order to buy/source products. Essentially, merchandising is the numerical function within a business that ensures that stock is ordered following previous trend patterns and data collated.
