The role includes line management and development responsibilities, oversight of external legal panel relationships and collaborative support for senior legal and non-legal internal stakeholders, the Board and Executive. You will:Lead on key strategic and complex legal matters relating to marine assets, energy projects (including offshore wind and renewables) and corporate/commercial transactions.Provide proactive, pragmatic, and solution-oriented legal advice that effectively balances commercial opportunity with legal risk, taking into consideration other risk factors of relevance (e.g. reputational, financial, sustainability, regulatory and political).Manage junior members of the Legal Team and relationships with external panel firms (driving cost certainty and reduction in external legal spend, ensuring value for money and effective use of resources).Work closely with the Group Head of Legal, Ethics & Compliance to ensure effective support at Board and Executive-level and contribute to the development and implementation of legal strategy, policies, and frameworks.Work collaboratively with Legal Team colleagues to help champion and drive improvements in legal operations, including digital transformation, process optimisation, and risk management.Monitor legal trends and regulatory developments in the energy, renewables, and offshore sectors, ensuring the business remains compliant and informed.The Successful ApplicantThe successful application will be a Solicitor, qualified in the UK (or equivalent Common Law Jurisdiction) with significant (probably more than 10 years PQE) in-house legal experience in a senior advisory role, ideally within the energy, renewables, or offshore sectors.They will have:A proven track record of delivering pragmatic, strategic legal advice to senior stakeholders on energy, infrastructure, and commercial matters.In-depth understanding of law and regulation relevant to UK energy and marine matters, with a focus on renewables (especially offshore wind), marine assets, and infrastructure projects.Strong working knowledge of corporate/commercial law, including joint ventures, partnerships, and complex transactions.Sound understanding of corporate governance and constitutional matters.Experience managing legal teams and developing talent.Desirable:Knowledge of relevant public law matters would also be desirous (e.g. Judicial Review, Public Procurement etc.).EssentialThis is a key strategic hire: The candidate will need to demonstrate that they can align legal advice with business strategy, anticipating future risks and opportunities, particularly in the energy and offshore sectors.This organisation has a hybrid working policy, the successful candidate will need to be able to attend the London office at least 50% of the working week.What's on OfferTo find out more about this exclusive instruction, as well as the salary, benefits and bonus on offer for this role, please apply to this advert.ContactDavid TaylorQuote job refJN-072026-7066443Phone number+44 207 269 2358Job summaryJob functionLegalSubsectorEnergy - In HouseSectorEnergy & Natural ResourcesWhereCity of LondonContract typePermanentConsultant nameDavid TaylorConsultant phone+44 207 269 2358Job referenceJN-072026-7066443
