Tell us about your PageGroup career so far

I joined as a graduate in May 2013 after returning from travelling Australia and SE Asia. I joined Michael Page Finance as an associate consultant and worked on the specialist markets team. I managed to hit ‘High Flyers’ in my first quarter and again in my third. I was promoted to full consultant in January 2014 and the senior consultant in August 2014.
In January 2015 I recruited an associate consultant to work alongside me in my market. He got up to speed quickly and narrowly missed out on ‘High Flyers’ twice in his first six months (the targets had gone up since I hit them) He was soon promoted and is on track for more success in the not too distant future. I am now a managing consultant with Michael Page Finance, the same team I joined back in 2013.

Why did you join PageGroup?

I joined PageGroup for a number of reasons. Whilst I had not considered a career in recruitment before I graduated, the more I found out about the role and the industry the more it seemed very appealing. The main factors were:
  • The culture – I met some great people before I joined and the team seemed to have a really strong relationship. The atmosphere was good and it had a real feel of a work hard play hard environment.
  • The career prospects – Progression within the company was very clearly laid out, and this is based on a meritocracy.
  • The training and development - It's structured to ensure individual and collective success.
  • The rewards – Bonus structures, potential promotions, team incentives and the rest.

For me the biggest challenge was managing my time effectively. Once I had processes ongoing, the temptation was to focus all my attention on managing those processes without looking to build new work for the coming weeks and months. By planning each day/week carefully and setting realistic targets I was able to better prioritise my workload.

What are your career aspirations with PageGroup?

There is always something to strive for here. The next step for me is to become a manager. I’d also like to work abroad for a period of time too which is easy to do with Page. After that I’d like to become a director within PageGroup back in the UK.

What is most rewarding about your job?

Successfully filling a job for a client and finding a candidate their ideal role are both incredibly satisfying. Also hitting target feels great as you are very well rewarded both financially and with team events.
