With the demand for skilled engineers on the rise, companies are constantly on the lookout for candidates who possess the necessary technical expertise to drive innovation and success. Veolia recently lost two Field Service Engineers, and after struggling to fill these positions internally, needed a leading recruitment agency that had the sector expertise and knowledge to fill these roles with a fast turnaround, from advertising to placement.  

Their internal talent team outlined the barriers they faced in their recruitment efforts, one being a noticeable skills shortage across the sector. The market for qualified Field Service Engineering candidates is short, making it increasingly challenging for companies like Veolia to find candidates with the required technical skills for the job.

Our Engineering & Manufacturing recruitment consultants operate across the UK,  spanning an array of sectors and job levels, making us the perfect partner to support clients like Veolia with specific hiring needs.

The first step our team took was to thoroughly understand the client's requirements and the specific skills and experience required for the role. By conducting in-depth discussions with the hiring manager, they were able to create an effective customer value proposition, including a detailed job description and person specification that accurately reflected the company's needs.

Our expert engineering recruiter utilised their internal database of qualified candidates and reached out to potential candidates via targeted email marketing, and various social media channels, including our long-lasting job board partners; CV library, Reed, Indeed, and LinkedIn.

After an initial search, our consultant identified a shortlist of four high-quality candidates who met the client's requirements and were already within Michael Page’s internal CC database, showcasing the strength and quality of our candidate network.

Before presenting the shortlist to Veolia, we conducted thorough interviews to ensure that the candidates we put forward had the necessary technical skills, experience, and cultural fit for the company and that position.

Three of the four candidates shortlisted were invited to an interview, with two then progressing to the second stage interview. Our team then worked closely with Veolia and candidates to coordinate interviews and provide feedback throughout. Michael Page facilitated the entire recruitment process, from initial contact to offer negotiation, ensuring a smooth and efficient hiring process from end-to-end.

Both candidates who progressed to the second stage were hired, with both already adding value to Arla Foods’ Field Service team. Michael Page's customer-led approach, thorough understanding of the client's needs, and extensive internal network were key factors in their success in meeting this client's expectations. With a two-week turnaround from advertising role to placement, our expert recruiter exceeded Veolia’s time-to-hire goal by 50%.
